So ... Valentine's Day! The day where couples celebrate their love out loud.
If you are in a relationship perhaps today is the day you remember to acknowledge your significant other with something more than a sleepy-eyed grunt in the morning before you head out the door to work. Maybe you're doing the obligatory date night with dinner and a movie. Or perhaps just staying in a snuggling on the couch.
If you're single, today might be the day you walk by all the chocolate at Hannaford and say to yourself "next year." Maybe you're okay with being single, maybe you're not. (It's definitely okay, by the way, even preferable at times.)
This year, my Valentine's Day is going to be much different than that. Now, I'm not saying that mine will be BETTER but ...
Today, I've decided to be my own Valentine. Instead of reaching out into the world, I will turn inward. I will love and appreciate myself. I will tell myself "Mikayla, you are so important to me. I love you!" (Mirror Exercise, GO!)
Today, I will be surrounded by some of the most connected and loving people in my life. I will greet them this morning with love in my heart and with silent heart hugs as we prepare to share our last day in Long Beach together, encouraging and supporting each other in our growth as trainers.
Tonight, I will have dinner in an airport with my loving mentor, one of the most important people in my life, and I'll sleep soundly on a plane, headed back home to snow.
I know this atypical Valentine's Day wouldn't be ideal for most, but for me, I couldn't think of anything better.
Happy Valentine's Day to you! May your day be full of self love!
